HARRISBURG – Rep. Stephenie Scialabba (R-Butler) announced today that the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority has awarded Butler County more than $12.4 million in federal funding to enhance broadband access for residents.

"Improving broadband infrastructure is critical for productivity and overall quality of life," emphasized Scialabba. She further added, "No matter if it is for the workplace or leisure activities, every Pennsylvanian must have access to this service." Scialabba highlighted the significance of the awarded funding, stating, "This award is transformational, allowing Pennsylvania to close the digital divide between rural and urban areas."

The funding, provided through the state’s Broadband Infrastructure Program (BIP), was approved at a meeting of the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority in Harrisburg. The program is designed to target areas lacking access to 25/3 Mbps reliable service, with a focus on supporting extensions of existing last-mile cable modem and fiber-to-the-premise broadband networks, as well as large-scale regional projects that can significantly enhance broadband availability by serving numerous eligible addresses.

This initiative signifies a crucial step towards bridging the connectivity gap and ensuring that individuals across Pennsylvania have equitable access to essential online services and opportunities.

Representative Stephenie Scialabba from the 12th Legislative District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives played a pivotal role in advocating for and securing this substantial funding for broadband improvement in Butler County.
