In an effort to improve water systems in Butler County, Rep. Marci Mustello and Sen. Scott Hutchinson have announced grants totaling $2.1 million. The borough of Chicora will receive $1.5 million, while the Municipal Authority of Buffalo Township will be awarded $600,000.

"These grants represent key investments in the future of these communities by protecting public health and ensuring a clean, reliable water supply for area residents," Mustello said. "Our local officials in Buffalo Township and Chicora Borough have done an excellent job in assessing the needs of these water systems and planning for improvements. I am pleased to be an advocate for them in securing funds to advance these projects."

Hutchinson echoed Mustello's sentiments, stating, "These waterline projects will ensure clean and reliable water service to businesses and residents of Buffalo Township and Chicora Borough, and this funding will ease their financial burden. It has been a pleasure to work with Rep. Mustello and municipal officials to identify this need and help provide some state assistance."

Chicora's grant will be used for the replacement of existing water lines in the community, while the Municipal Authority of Buffalo Township will utilize its funding for the Route 228 West/Ekastown area waterline extension project.

The grants were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority and are funded from multiple sources, with the largest portion coming from federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money appropriated for recreation and conservation as part of previous Pennsylvania state budgets.

This investment in water system improvement projects will have a lasting impact on the communities of Butler County. It will ensure a clean and reliable water supply, benefiting both residents and businesses. The collaboration between local officials, Rep. Mustello, and Sen. Hutchinson has been instrumental in securing these funds and addressing the needs of the water systems.

The residents of Chicora and Buffalo Township can now look forward to a more sustainable and efficient water infrastructure, thanks to the dedication and advocacy of their elected representatives.
